Fire Detection Systems

NOW ACCEPTING DIGITAL PLANS

All plans including applications should be emailed to the Fire Marshal's Office at firecode@tomballtx.gov

A fire alarm system is designed to detect the unwanted presence of fire by monitoring for environmental changes associated with combustion. In general, a fire alarm system can be classified as either automatically actuated, manually actuated, or both.

Automatic fire alarm systems are intended to notify the building occupants to evacuate in the event of a fire or other emergency, report the event to an off-premises location in order to summon emergency services, and to prepare the structure and associated systems to control the spread of fire and smoke through the use of automated fire separations (i.e. fire doors, fire dampers).

A manually actuated fire alarm system requires human intervention. Basically, someone has to physically see a fire or smoke and through the use of a manual pull station notifies the building occupants of the impending danger. This person must then contact emergency services.

Fire Detection Plans submitted for review shall be submitted using the following criteria. A manual and automatic fire alarm system shall be provided in new buildings and structures other than in Group U occupancies that have a fire area exceeding 5,000 square feet in accordance with Sections 907.2.1 through 907.2.23.
