On Friday, Mar. 6, the Greater Tomball Area Chamber of Commerce honored Public Works employee Brennan Brooks as the City of Tomball’s Public Safety Officer of the Month at their First Friday Luncheon.
During this year’s winter storm, Brennan was working diligently to ensure public facilities and backflow devices were protected from freezing and that winterization measures were functioning effectively across the city. While performing these duties near the intersection of Cherry Street and Medical Complex, Brennan noticed a motor vehicle repeatedly circling him while he was working in the median.
Recognizing the unusual behavior, Brennan activated all warning lights on his duty truck, moved his vehicle off the median, and contacted the Police Department for assistance. After relocating, the driver pulled over in front of him. Brennan approached the vehicle to check on the driver’s well-being and immediately detected the odor of alcohol. The driver began speaking about personal concerns and appeared impaired.
Remaining calm and professional, Brennan asked the driver to place the vehicle in park and requested the keys, which the driver willingly handed over. By doing so, Brennan ensured the vehicle could not be driven and that the situation remained safe for everyone in the area. Shortly after, a police officer arrived on scene to assist, and the driver was taken into custody and removed from the roadway.
Brennan demonstrated excellent judgment and professionalism by remaining calm, contacting law enforcement, and prioritizing the safety of both the driver and the public. His actions helped prevent a potentially dangerous situation and serve as a strong example of the dedication and responsibility shown by our Public Works employees.
Please join us in congratulating Brennan Brooks on this well-deserved recognition and thanking him for his commitment to keeping the Tomball community safe.
